How to Never Run Out of Blog Post Ideas Again

If there's one thing that I think almost all bloggers fear above all, it's running out of ideas. I mean, let's be honest...writer's block is a huge pain in the a$$ — especially if you're relying on your blog as a source of income.

I wrote about how comparison has stifled my creativity in the past here, but there's a few other tips that I didn't note in that post that have helped me to grow as a writer and blogger immensely.

In fact, I almost never question what I'm going to write about nowadays.

That's coming from a girl who used to stare at her computer for hours trying to come up with the "perfect" post idea.

So, needless to say, these tips are the real deal, and I hope you'll find them useful in maintaining the motivation to blog and come up with fabulous ideas!

Here's how I never run out of blog post ideas:

1. don't be a coward

One of my New Year's Resolutions was to start being more honest with myself. What makes me happy? What makes me tick? What inspires me? As my Instagram bio says, I'm not a people pleaser. I kind of used to be though.

Example: For the longest time, I was afraid to talk about myself on this blog. I just didn't think people would be interested. Boy was I wrong! I've seen a great response to my newest series "The Weekend Edit", but this never would have happened if I didn't have the guts to get out of my comfort zone and just do it.

If you want to truly be creative and always have blog post ideas, you've got to lose the fear of being wrong. Just freaking go for it. Always. Posts that don't perform as well as you had hoped are purely educational, and that's a good thing because it means you're learning.

2. keep a running list

There's nothing I recommend more for bloggers than keeping a running list of all your post ideas. I like to record everything in the "notes" section of my iPhone, simply because I have access to it pretty much at all times. You never know when an idea will strike you, and you definitely want to write it down immediately so you don't forget! Keeping a list is of story ideas is my favorite thing ever, because I can go back and look at it any time I need a little jumpstart on my next post.

3. Maintain an editorial calendar

Another great way to make keep your inspiration up and your motivation on point is to keep an editorial calendar. Plan your posts out in advance, so there's no question of what you'll be writing about. You can always switch around post ideas later on too, if you lose inspiration for an idea. This will at least keep you on track though with posting consistently.

4. write what you want to write about

My final piece of advice? You already know it if you subscribe to my "Weekly Dose of Inspiration" (sign up via the black triangle button in the right hand corner of this page), but I'll say it here again. Write what you want to write about. Blogging solely for the purpose of pleasing an audience or gaining page views will put you on the fast track to burnout. Trust me. Been there, done that. Readers can see through that facade real quick, and you're always, always, ALWAYS better off being your 100% authentic self.
