Though I have been lucky and have avoided any serious acne outbreaks over the years, we all have our moments when, no matter how strong our skincare game is, we're still plagued by an unstoppable breakout. Whenever I would have this issue in high school, my acne almost always turned up in the same spot...right after the last pimple had cleared up. Not only was this recurring problem area totally frustrating, but I actually wound up with quite a bit of scarring.
These acne scars turned into a huge insecurity for me, and I couldn't nix them no matter how hard I tried. I worked with a dermatologist and tried loads of different creams and serums, but nothing seemed to work. They've begun to fade over time (yay!), but I recently whipped up a new brightening scrub packed with lemon juice and honey to help move the process along a little quicker. If you also struggle with acne scarring, it's an absolute must-try. It's only three ingredients (which you probably already have in your pantry), smells delicious, and is completely natural. Here's the sitch:
3 INGREDIENT BRIGHTENING SUGAR SCRUB
♥ 1/3 cup sugar
♥ 1/8 cup honey
♥ 1/2 small lemon
♥ Mix the sugar, honey, and juice of 1/2 of a small lemon in a bowl.
♥ Store excess in the fridge for up to two days.
If you've been following along on TBC for awhile, you guys know that I'm NOT a fan of long, complicated recipes. As the saying goes, ain't nobody got time for that -- right? That's why I'm so obsessed with this little concoction lately; I always have all of the ingredients in my house without even trying, and it takes literally no more than five minutes to make. It's my version of perfection.
Also, just an FYI -- this recipe doesn't yield a huge quantity of scrub like the French Vanilla Coffee Body Scrub I shared. Fresh lemon juice only lasts for a few days in the fridge, so the measurements above are only designed to get you through that length of time. That being said, the portion is still quite generous, especially if you're only using it on your face and not your shoulders, arms, and back (which I do recommend).

Despite the fact that New York is currently awaiting a massive snow storm right now (*sigh*), spring is right around the corner.
Aside from doing a deep clean of my closet and going on a major clothing haul to prep for the next few months of fashion posts, I also try I try to reevaluate my beauty/skincare routine each season. Spring is one of my favorite times, because it brings lots of beautiful colors and delicious new scents.
However, it can be a tricky transition going from the dry winter weather to luscious spring in the blink of an eye. Of course, this is always how it seems to happen in New York. Luckily though, I've established a few rules of thumb (totally through trial and error) that'll help even the most troubled skin transition seamlessly into the upcoming season...
Dry brushing is one of those topics that I reference all the time and have been meaning to do a full-fledged post on for what seems like literal ages. I started dry brushing after reading another blogger's lowdown on it a few years ago, and I've pretty much been obsessed ever since. It's something that I try to do almost every time before I get in the shower, and my skin is definitely thankful for it!

I mean, how am I supposed to save up for this bag when I'm blowing my entire paycheck on glorified soap? Thanks, but no thanks.
Lately, I've become V picky about my nighttime routine. I only use a handful of products nowadays, and I'm always careful to check the ingredients before applying anything to my skin. After all, most people would be shocked to hear that, according to this source, women absorb up to FIVE POUNDS of damaging chemicals a year — all thanks to their beauty products.
But does this mean you should immediately toss everything that's currently housed on your vanity without second thought? Thank the Lord, no! My motto has always been that slow and steady wins the race. Cutting something out cold turkey doesn't typically work for anyone, and I will always stand by the idea that one of the most important factors in creating a healthy lifestyle is about finding balance. Know your facts, and actively choose what you allow to go in (and on) your body.

I only created a few in 2016, but they were some of my most-visited and shared posts of the entire year. This one even got featured in a Bloglovin' edit, which was kind of a big deal considering it was the first natural beauty tutorial I'd ever posted here on The Blonde Chiffon.
