I don't think I've mentioned it on the blog before, but every winter my family is fortunate enough to have the opportunity to get away from the cold for a few weeks. The destination is always changing (Mexico, Jamaica, Aruba, the DR, THIS year it's St. Martin...), but I've always had the same skin troubles year after year.
I spend a lot of time outside when I'm in NY, especially now that I've got my horse Teddy to take care of (every day!). My skin gets SO dry with the cold weather.
And it only gets worse when I travel. You'd think the opposite would happen, since it's always a warm/humid destination, but one day into the trip and my skin is fried. Tomato red. And of course, it's even more dry than when I was whoopin' it up in snowy New York.
Again, not cute.
So, this year I'm saying hell to the freakin' no to dry skin. I've scoured the Web + experimented to see what works and what doesn't, so you don't have to. Here are a few tippity tips to help improve your winter skincare routine:
I know, this one's a no-brainer. Right? Seriously though, you'd be amazed at how many people underestimate the value of a good moisturizer. I'm currently loving Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Repair Lotion for a few reasons:
1) It's cheap AF ($4.99). It can also be bought practically anywhere (food, drug, and mass retail stores). Love it.
2) It contains healing micro-droplets of Vaseline Jelly. How cool is that? Not to mention, I feel like the fact alone that it contains real Vaseline Jelly means that it's the real deal when it comes to hydration.
3) It's clinically proven to heal dry skin in five days. Impatient is practically my middle name, so this is a major YES.
2. Switch out your products
Set aside the tough toners and oil-fighting cleansers until spring. The seasons are changing, and the products you use should change right along with them, especially if you're already notorious for having dry skin in general.
3. Amp up your diet
Think about incorporating foods such as coconuts, avocados, sweet potatoes, and oatmeal into your diet. Rich in healthy fats and vitamins, these snacks can seriously boost your glow in a non-greasy, but perfectly dewey way.

Despite the fact that New York is currently awaiting a massive snow storm right now (*sigh*), spring is right around the corner.
Aside from doing a deep clean of my closet and going on a major clothing haul to prep for the next few months of fashion posts, I also try I try to reevaluate my beauty/skincare routine each season. Spring is one of my favorite times, because it brings lots of beautiful colors and delicious new scents.
However, it can be a tricky transition going from the dry winter weather to luscious spring in the blink of an eye. Of course, this is always how it seems to happen in New York. Luckily though, I've established a few rules of thumb (totally through trial and error) that'll help even the most troubled skin transition seamlessly into the upcoming season...
Dry brushing is one of those topics that I reference all the time and have been meaning to do a full-fledged post on for what seems like literal ages. I started dry brushing after reading another blogger's lowdown on it a few years ago, and I've pretty much been obsessed ever since. It's something that I try to do almost every time before I get in the shower, and my skin is definitely thankful for it!
