Favorite Finds: Movies to see This Holiday Season

What better time to see a good film than during the holidays?  I love going to the movies because it's a great way to relax, especially at our local theater which has leather recliners! There are so many great films coming out this season that I just could't resist doing a little roundup of my must sees. I've also compiled a few picks, which have already come out on DVD, that I'm planning on seeing curled up on my couch with Rex (my great dane).

Coming to a Theater Near You:

1. Into the Woods

If you ask me, Disney is going to kill it again with another musical hit. Talents such as Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick and Johnny Depp (who almost never disappoint) have come together for this adaption of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods. Based on a variety of Brothers Grimm fairy tales, it is sure to be popular among adults and children alike.

Release Date: December 25, 2014

2. Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb

Ben Stiller is hilarious in Night at the Museum and Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian, so I am especially pumped to see this pick. In the sendoff of the trilogy, the tablet that awakens the museum at night is loosing its power, sending Larry Daley (Stiller) to England. I'm also always excited to see the work of the late Robin Williams, who plays the spectacular Teddy Roosevelt in the films.

Release Date: December 19, 2014 (ALREADY IN THEATERS!)

3. Wild

I cannot wait to see this memoir turned motion picture. I read the book a few years ago and would definitely recommend you tackle that before seeing the film because it is just such a inspirational story, which details Cheryl Strayed's journey across more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail alone, with zero hiking experience. On this journey Strayed, a heroin user and divorcee, finds herself through a series of interesting, sometimes humorous and inspiring experiences.

Release Date: December 3, 2014 (ALREADY IN THEATERS!)

4. The Theory of Everything

I have been waiting to see this movie for months! Yes, I know it came out in November but I haven't made much time for myself this holiday season, which means I haven't been to the theater since October. However, I'm definitely planning on seeing this one, the untold story of Stephen Hawking and his wife, ASAP.

Release Date: November 3, 2014 (STILL IN THEATERS!)

For Staying In:

1. The Maze Runner

My roommate has been raving about The Maze Runner for weeks, so I'm bound to see this one soon. In a dystopian setting, Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) is deposited into a community of boys with his memory erased. He soon learns that the only way to escape the community is to become a "runner" and challenge the maze. However, everyone before him has died trying.

2. 22 Jump Street

I saw 22 Jump Street last month and found it was a rare case in which a sequel actually came close to matching the comedic brilliance of its predecessor. Officers Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are back to bust another drug phenomenon, but they're not going back to high school...they're going to college.

Happy Holidays!

xoxo,
